Value Study/Painting in Process
I took a photo of one of my granddaughters and did a value study of the photo. I am in the process of finishing her portrait.
Flower in her Hair
Acrylic on Canvas
Girl in Turquoise
Oil on Canvas
Oil lends itself well to portrait painting. The long drying time made this portrait so much easier to paint. The oils with their long drying time make blending so much easier. However, I don't like doing portraits on canvas. I need to find a material with less texture.
Chicken Catcher
Oil on Canvas
Painting a portrait in oil is so superior to acrylic. I love the way oil paints glide on the canvas and blend. The long drying time is a downside but it is worth it.

This was my first attempt to paint a portrait. Acrylic paints are challenging for portrait painting. Acrylics have quick drying time, even when using extenders. The acrylics didn't blend well for skin highlights and shadows. I'm grateful I managed to get a good likeness of the model.
